Watching screen leads to depression


Introduction:
Depression is one of the most common mental disorders and it is estimated that 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression globally.
We all know that people used their most of their precious time on watching social media including Facebook, Whats App, Instagram and Twitter as you know people serve most of their time on making videos on Tiktok.



Research:

It was seen that watching too much screen leads to depression and anxiety. Epidemiological surveys conducted in general populations have shown that the frequency of depression is about 9% in the United States. World Health Organization has projected that depression will be leading cause of disease burden by the year 2030.


Cause:

Because of watching too much time on social media, adults do not get proper sleep, this cause also leads to depression. Many hormones which are released during sleep are affected.
Sedentary life style is the leading cause of depression in people. It is leading people towards cardiovascular diseases and also diabetes. Watching T.V screen, computer and laptops are including in sedentary life style. People who spend more than 4 hours on watching screen are at higher risk of depression. The National Institute of Health estimates that youth commonly spend an average of five to seven hours on screens during leisure time.
San Diego State University psychologist Dr. Jean Twenge and University of Georgia psychology professor Dr. W. Keith Campbell discovered that after only one hour of screen time daily, children and teens may begin to have less curiosity, lower self-control, less emotional stability and a greater inability to finish tasks.

Conclusion:

Watch too much screen is the leading cause of our changing mood swings. Because we are cut of form our families, and from our relationships. So, we should maintain balance in our life to enjoy life. We can use our hobbies, conversation with different people, walking, reading books and cooking to avoid watch too much screen. Watching too much screen also effects our eye sight and cause headache.
